The elderly were in the main focus of "Lastavica" activities from the very early stages. This work was further developed in 2000 through specialized programmes targeting the needs of the elderly.
Since 2003, Lastavica is a member of the network of nine organizations from Southeast Europe (South Eastern European Network -SEEN). The network focuses on supporting the elderly, and it also encourages the non-governmental organizations to exchange experience and to further develop their capacities in working with the elderly. The founder of this network is international humanitarian organization Help Age International.
 

In 2004 Lastavica national network “HumanaS” that gathers organizations engaged in working for the elderly was formed. Lastavica is one of the founders. More about HumanaS activities
The scope of our work is to mitigate the problems of social exclusion and inappropriate image of the elderly people in the community of Surcin, while at the same time developing new services both for deprived, poor older people, often isolated at their homes, and for those that are still fit, healthy and eager to increase participation in the community. Currently we work in three Clubs for the elderly in Surcin and Dobanovci villages and we organize field visits of mobile teams.
 

 Basic services that Lastavica provides within the Club for the elderly persons are:
 

Psychological support:

Psychological support, individual and group meetings, advices of social worker, legal advices, recreation, picnics, visit to the theatre, ethno events, distribution of press, visits to other pensioner clubs, cinema in the clubs, programe and presentation of self help groups.
 

Health care support:
 

Medical advices, various medical prevention trainings.
 

Self-help groups:
 

Healthcare (measurement of blood pressure and sugar in blood), artistic groups (writing and singing groups)
 

Economic strengthening for the elderly:
 

Older persons are involved in all income generating programe in Lastavica, especially in the artistic textile workshop and preparation of winter food.
 

Programe of intergenerational solidarity such as memorial of the Day of the elderly October 1st, or other events for holidays and celebrations re organized in cooperation with local primary schools «Vuk Karadžić» and "22nd October
 

Mobile teams
 

Upon available funds, Lastavica organizes the work of mobile teams for support to older and marginalized persons - usually ill and poor. We organize specialists examinations, ophthalmologist, delivery of humanitarian parcels, education for the elderly etc.

 

     Around 120 of the elderly At this moment Lastavica is within the Club for the elderly in U ovom trenutku Lastavica unutar Kluba za starije osobe u Surčinu i lokalnih partnerskih klubova penzionera podržava oko 120 starijih osoba, a programe sprovodi u parnerstvu sa lokalnim Centrom za socijalni rad i osnovnim školama «Vuk Karadžić» i "22 oktobar".
